Tech Tool Enables Mass Surveillance Capabilities For Police

Many phone apps can collect all kinds of personal information to serve targeted ads. NBC News’ Jake Ward explains how a privacy group recently discovered that dozens of law enforcement agencies across the country have been buying that data in a piece of software called “fog reveal” which gives them the power to track the movements of 250 million Americans.

  1. To be clear, assigning a random internal identifier to targets is deliberate. Plausible legal deniability. But stalkerware enables much, much worse. Your historical patterns indicate what you will do NEXT. Where you will go, the route you will take, even what you plan to eat and drink at your favorite bar or diner. Meaning bad actors can pre plan and arrange a multitude of felonies against selected targets and call it “bad luck”. Who could have known you would go here, sit there and order that??? Enable stalkers to go far BEYOND just surveillance.

  2. Minority report. Here we go.

  3. People think I'm crazy but this is exactly why I don't have a cell phone

  4. Hopefully my Little FBI Agent listens to my music.

  5. What’s the point? The criminals that are caught are released anyway with little to no punishment. This is just another tool to be used against those not in power at any given time.

  6. Ohhhh now lefty news DOESNT like the big internet overlord

    G……o
    G,L…e
    Interfering in their lives ?
You all don't mind when they censor dissenting opinions, but when they sell info to cops……OH RAISE THE ALARM.

  7. But their the ones complaining "I feared for my life" lol Bully punks! They already use pegasus!

  8. but who doesn't love to be tracked by the government

  9. You pay for us to watch you! Free phones for lower income families ! Because your probably thieves and we want to watch you on the toilet and track you 🚽 . .

  10. Android users can disable the sensors (GPS, gyroscope, accelerometer etc.) on their phone via a quick access button that can be initialized in the developer options menu (tap the android build number seven times to add the developer options menu to settings); the sensors can then be disabled and enabled with a tap on the quick access button, just like the flashlight…at least until the next OS update which will reset any changes made in developer options and hide the menu again. Using this developer option will also disable your mic and camera, so you will have to decline incoming calls, tap the sensors button and call whomever back or whenever you want to take pics or video.
There are a bunch of 'how-to' videos, search 'turn off android sensors'.

  11. Something needs to be done about this b4 it’s to late

  12. Welcome to the age of surveillance capitalism

  13. This is fantastic! The WEF can monitor us 24/7 and make sure we aren’t out of line.

  14. How is this legal… also most of the states that used it did not surprise me.

  15. So how much is my personal information worth? And since my social security number identifies me then anything that is me is mine unless exchanged for something of equal value

  16. If you are NOT committing a crime this should NOT be a problem. Buy a burner phone and use prepaid cards.

  17. Yall brought this on yall self ! The company probably wanted to do different unroll they seen all this broad day robbery bs and stuff! & seeing all of the people recorded it ! Made them think ! Lol

    Yall don't complain now!

  18. People need to think, f your service is free, how does it make money? This has been happening for over a decade.

  19. Short take. Nothing will be done because Congress is useless

  20. They don't reveal it to police until the receive a subpoena. Then your advert ID becomes a Name, SSN, address, and DOB.

  21. LOL WHO WAS SO STUPID THEY DIDN'T KNOW what a 'can you hear me now tracking device was?

I don't have any apps or tracking on my phone, it's a land line, same one for 23 years. When I'm mobile I have no tracking because I don't bring my computer or my phone with me. I'm not on call. I HAVE NO APS

  22. but it can save your life to the only person dont want this have something to hide xD if your legal you dont care right xD and anyway thats existe from long time ago

  23. My FBI agent has been doing this to me for the last decade

  24. Well where have you been for the last TEN YEARS!?! This is not a news flash.

  25. What stopping companies from selling their data to the Chinese and Russian people then they can start taking out us Americans by surgical precision

  26. Rapists protect rapists..

  27. Personal choice. No one forced you into carrying a smart phone or to download apps. It’s all about convenience in a modern world.

  28. It's only now that this knowledge is starting to become mainstream.

Not only govts use this data but advanced "hackers" have been using it for nearly 20 years to track, and harass and benefit from. I'm not sure mainstream people will grasp the insidiousness of this for another 30 years. I hope all the tech people involved in creating this surveillance system go to prison for the rest of their lives

  29. We are always under surveillance . Did Edward Snowden teach team anything. Not the movie but his leaks.

  30. ‼️😂😁 If you really think this is new tech I have a beautiful waterfront tropical beach in Oklahoma to sell you 💯‼️😁

  31. oh.. <yawns at old news>.. glad to see the normies are finally catching on.. im sure much worse is happening with that data. also for you guys posting "if you have nothing to hide whats the big deal" yeah lets install a surveillance camera in your bedroom and bathroom after all everything you're doing in there is legal and perfectly natural.. im sure you trust that data wont be leaked and besides privacy must be sacrificed to protect our country you know how it goes and so im sure you dont mind the government tracking your bowel movements and sexual habits and what weird things you do when you think you're alone its all just part of national security, you know in case a terrorist uses your bathroom.. "saying you dont need a right to privacy because you have nothing to hide is like saying you dont need the right to speak freely because you have nothing to say.. " – edward snowden

  32. Consumer needs more protection. How is this any different than the ancestry DNA you send to companies, police can also take those samples run them through their database without your consent.

  33. Need to vote to remove qualified immunity

  34. Do you accept cookies/permissions?
    No!

  35. They track everything and can infer anything. beware

  36. All of our rights are slowly being taken away. Women's rights are being stripped away by men in dresses. Doctor's aren't allowed to speak the truth or be faced with jail time. You're not allowed to be white and if so, you're a racist with no culture. Can't speak out against corrupt politicians, if so you're a Trump supporter and labeled a racist. People were forced to take the vaccine, if not you were terminated from your career. These are just the very few things we take for granted until we're faced with a cult like attitude that represents a certain ideology that slowly introduces a so-called solution. But in reality, these things are being ripped away from us slowly. I wouldn't doubt for one second that these companies are driven by the WOKE movement just to keep an eye on the ones that question corrupt government.

  37. I have successfully infiltrated several Russian embassy’s around the world

  38. Welcome to China everybody..

  39. Wait, "police is buying app permissions data" ? With the people tax money? Crazy. It doesn't follow under the privacy act, I smell alot of law suites.

  40. GOVERNMENT OVERSIGHT:No! Bad NSA. No surveillance without a warrant!
    ALSO GOVERNMENT OVERSIGHT:
Oh, phone company you want to? ,Ok!…..
    WTF?

  41. Here's the thing…..
If the police can use this the RIGHT way….
Why are there still SO MANY SHOOTINGS AND VIOLENT CRIMES?
Shouldn't they be able to look at Facebook and Instagram to see where and what the criminal is doing?😉🤨🤨🤨🤨

  42. AND AT SOME POINT – BAD COPS WILL USE THIS IN THE WRONG WAY – AND THERE ARE MANY MANY MANY BAD COPS STILL OUT THERE

  43. THEY COULDN'T GET YOU TO PUT THE CHIP IN THE BACK OF YOUR HAND – SO THEY GOT YOUTO CARRY THE CHIP IN YOUR HAND —YOUR PHONE~!!!!!!

  44. I didn't give access to any data brokers

  45. sigh,, only the adults in the room will understand this bit of not new news. Be a good grownup and keep your location off and deny all permissions to apps or just don't use any apps if you can help it. Do YOUR part by keeping YOUR info from those who would sell it without giving you a cut. MY INFO,, MY MONEY,, GIVE IT UP NOW!
