The Texas Supreme Court overturned a lower court ruling that would have allowed a woman to have an abortion due to medical concerns. Before the ruling, Kate Cox, whose fetus received a fatal diagnosis, decided to leave the state to have the procedure. NBC News’ Maura Barrett shares the details on Cox’s case and her doctor’s concerns for her pregnancy.

There is a lot of hyperbole in this story. The Cox child's condition, trisomy 18, poses no additional risk to the mother. Her claim is that any pregnancy puts her at increased risk because of her two prior c-sections. She was willing to accept that risk when she got pregnant but claims the risk is excessive now that she knows her child has a genetic defect. She does not want her child delivered alive because care for someone with that genetic condition is expensive.

Good for Texas for standing up for what is right. It’s unfortunate and utterly devastating that this woman was unable to see the value of her child’s life.
If she doesn't have the abortion, she could have complications now and to conceive in the future. She wants her baby but her life is more valuable. She will not be bringing home a live and viable baby.
