With all deference to the dustinguished lieutenant general, and recognizing that he did briefly serve as acting National Security advisor and then as Mike Pence's National Security advisor, I think that he has to look at this through the eyes of a diolomat and politician. The U.S. is now pumping out more oil than it ever did under Donald Trump. But prices haven't gone down much. It can't all be U.S. economic growth, though we are still increasing GDP and adding jobs. Rather it's the Saudis keeping oil off the market. This may see more Iranian oil and send a clear signal to the Saudis. After all, Iran has about 4/5ths as much in oil reseves as the Saudis. Note its not that this oil comes to the U.S.. The U.S. imports at most a million barrels a day from the Persian Gulf, and the only increasing importer of oil to the U.S. is Canada. But it's a) what it does to global oil prices and b) what it does to the very complicated set of relationships in the middle east.
