As a woman in tech, I have ZERO doubt that these men have been trying to get hired for months, and finally said "screw it, I'm going to do whatever it takes to get hired." Which, these days, is being able to tick a box OTHER than "most capable person for the job".
I have LITERALLY told my straight, white, male friends they should do this to get hired. For many, it's the only chance they have. Be something else. Identify as non-binary, queer, trans, whatever disability you have, state it – anything that makes you "special" for the "diversity police" will improve your chances of getting the job.
It's a shame that this is where we've come to…

I mean to be fair if they had great speakers I would love to go to one of these events, I could gain a lot of knowledge and perhaps network, it is within my best interest to claim I am non binary in that situation, and if you create a system that people can benefit from taking advantage of, it makes sense people will.
