I used to have " railroad tracks" on my "Don't want", home search list, but I was more concerned with traffic and noise. The people who live near railroad tracks, anywhere in the US, might be considered to be living in a hazardous environment. With so many of our democratic ways of life being destroyed, if we don't feel safe in our homes, what's left. Our children don't know if they're safe at school, now they can't be sure they're safe at home.

When Obama was president, there was stimulus money available to fix things like railroad tracks. The Republican governors and legislatures rejected the stimulus money in an effort to make Obama look bad. The net effect was that the stimulus money went primarily to blue states where things like railroads were upgraded allowing trains to run faster and quieter – which is also why blue states did so much better than red ones while Obama was president. The train wrecks in Ohio are the result of the Republican ideology – which is apparently designed for the ruination of America.

Sounds like the railroad company should of been using profits to do maintenance and prevent theses types of derailments. But I guess you had a hole your pocket where’s profits went.
I think what we are seeing is neglect on maintenance of railroad tracks. For years while living in Fort Lauderdale Florida, I would sit at a crossing near my house and watch the loose tracks move up and down while train cars passed over. It was obvious that the wood and metal were not secured in places. Fortunately it was a straightaway.
