TikTok’s ‘No Love Challenge’ shines a light on HBCU majorette dancing

The “No Love Challenge” featuring majorette dancing is the latest TikTok dance craze, but not many social media users know that it dates back to 1960s HBCU culture. NBC News’ Zinhle Essamuah discovers the story behind the viral clips.

FYI Chris Hayes’ show needs help identifying clips to publish to web/YouTube and I’ll need to rely on Matt + Christian to identify clips and to write headlines/descriptions for the videos.

Since they have Nancy Pelosi, sounds like its pretty straightforward trying to get the best moment from that + Hayes’ DeSantis monologue and any other counterprogramming available.

I’ll loop you both in on the email thread once it gets passed to me this afternoon.

Any questions/concerns?

  1. The title is misleading and focuses on HBCUs and majorette dancing but she never mentions if she went to or gives credit to an HBCU or if she was an actual majorette.

As a former K-rette (majorette) from the livest band at Kentucky State University this is sus and uber annoying.

  25. People can be evil. I'm skimming through the comments, thus far and it breaks my heart to know that some people can be so hurtful and inhumane. I am happy for the young lady to be able to expose her talent and make her, as well as so many others feel better when dancing!!!

  26. Thanks for posting, I’m dancing 💯

  27. Shout out to Jordyn my AAMU Diva!!

  28. This brought tears to my eyes. You see there are a lot of positives things you can do to get out of your stress or depression. She cose the right therapy instead of choosing pills and things that would make it worse. This really brought tears to my eyes. I get so emotional when I see one of my people inspire others in a positive way, this is no different. I hope she keeps her spirit up and don’t let her surrounding affect her in any circumstances. Way to go girl! Show the world and those youngsters like you out there, that there are positive ways to get out of any negative energy. God bless and keep it up!

  29. You did expect it to go viral. You wanted some attention. More BS.

  30. Why do white people always comment on black things! We be minding our business and white people always have something to say! The obsession is real!!

  31. Appreciate you sharing your beauty and talent, sis! ❤

  32. The topic is not about her it should be about HBCU dancing that's the real topic

  33. 01:11 And to think they get paid the big bucks for the type of advice you can get from a fortune cookie.

  35. She seems so smart but when she speaks it takes her iq level down 100 points 😂😂 i never got this actually.. its not the same as a Nigerian with an accent because nigerians speak their own languages so therefore they have a reason to not speak perfect english.. but whats the excuse here? Idk its not a big deal just something i don’t understand
