This vessel was partly made of carbon fiber. Carbon fiber is a terrible material to make a submersible out of. It tends to fracture rather than just bend like stainless steel or aluminum. I understand they needed to make the vessel lightweight, so steel is out of the question. Aluminum is lightweight but expensive, so aluminum is also out of the question. There really is no way of making a good submersible unless you have millions of dollars to spend.
