The country is evenly divided. You only need to flip 2-3% of the voters to win. Republicans lack a credible issue to run on. They used to say that they were for financial responsibility but when George W. Bush was president and they had both houses of congress, they has an opportunity to show the wonderful things they could do. Instead, they looted the treasury and started this country into a debt spiral we can't control. If Republicans don't come up with a credible issue to run on, they won't win.
