well, if GM is doing a recall, you can rest assured there's a problem. They are always very hesitant to do any sort of QA after the fact.

I walked away without a scratch from a serious accident 10 years ago that totaled out two vehicles. Neither party was injured at all. I am very thankful of the fact both vehicles had airbags.
I'm only posting this to put the extremely small number of "deaths by airbag" into some perspective when compared to the countless thousands of lives that were saved by them. Just something to think about…
In the USA for year 2021 alone, 549 people died from confirmed accidental gunshot wounds, over 48,000 died from gunshots in total with 26,000 of those by suicide.
As humans we are trying to do way more than what's necessary, this is just a bi-product of growth
