The abandonment of Bagram caused the deaths of many US soldiers and allies. It should have been kept as another evac point. Ghani was a crook to leave before the US did, but Saleh was brave to stay and keep fighting after the US left. Saleh should've been the one in charge from the beginning and there are still Afghan soldiers under him who are fighting the Taliban but getting no support from the US or rest of the world over the last two years.

No withdrawal from Afghanistan would have been necessary had the illegal insertion of our troops there not occurred in the first place. Remember, it was the Republican Bush administration that lied about there being weapons of mass destruction in Iraq to take us to war there. And then, as almost an afterthought, he invaded Afghanistan as well. These were illegal wars based on international law. And it can now be argued that had Bush, Cheney, Wolfowitz and Rumsfeld (deceased) been arrested and tried in the World Court for their war crimes pertaining to Iraq and Afghanistan that arresting and trying Putin for his illegal invasion of Ukraine would have been a natural consequence, and may have even prevented him from his invasion in the first place.
In reality, Trump bypassing the actual government and using his own stooges to make deals with the Taliban to give them the country, is what doomed Afghanistan. Just one of the places Traitor Trump screwed up in his term. Biden had real nerve to go thru with the withdrawal.
