The clear stand on Taiwan/ROC could/should have been taken by the US for decades.
Taiwan/ROC was the UN member and a permanent member of the UN Security Council until 1972.
In 1972 the US showed weakness when it allowed ROC to be replaced in the UN by the PRC.
Had the US insisted back then – the conflict would have ended, and we would have two states – ROC and PRC.
Still not late to resolve that old conflict by recognizing ROC as a sovereign state (which it is), and have it back to the United Nations, where it belongs.
In this situations , people of America should stand now to evict all the leaders that are contributing for the destruction of your economy and foreign policy.

OMG, now is not the time to be picking trouble with China. Throughout the 4 years of Trump's presidency, his administration implemented a trade war , trash talked , provoked , and generally tried to make China the bogey man. The "China threat" it's called. China getting rich and strong by selling their goods is supposed to be a threat. Trump and his neocon's prodigious efforts succeeded in finally arousing Chinese hostility. Little wonder China's assisting Russia( though not yet with weapons). Now the REAL bogey man, Russia, has come back on the scene. Also, Waltz is incorrect saying China equates Russia's situation with Ukraine the same as China's with Taiwan. China has NEVER characterized the Russia – Ukraine relationship as an "internal matter" as it does with China — Taiwan. Waltz is making stuff up. OMG and Waltz wants to start punishing China with secondary sanctions while China is refraining from giving Russia military assistance? This is supposed to be some kind of preemptive punishment? Do that and China WILL give Russia everything but the kitchen sink. The resentment at being unjustly sanctioned would further push China toward Russia as an ally. Not a good idea.

I think one reason that the Chinese spokesperson Hua Chunying won't call out Russia for an "invasion" is the translator used the word "侵略" for "invasion". "侵略" is a strong word and it triggers very negative feelings in Chinese. This word is usually used to describe enemies in a loathsome way. A more accurate translation is probably "入侵", it also means intrusion into another's domain but it reduces the level of hatred and contempt.
