I used to go to Acapulco until the early 90s when it started to become a gangland playground. I switched to Cuba for sun in winter, and moving around various Canadian provinces for personal enrichment. I'm 54, Cuba is still cheap, friendly, and safe, and I'd STILL need another life to know my own country as much as I want to. .
South/Central America and Mexico are almost ALL violence hotspots by now with the spread of the drug cartels. So I don't trust my luck there. Same with Jamaica and Dominican Republic. I don't even want to travel to the USA anymore. One random mass shooting a day saw to that.
That leaves me with Cuba, Europe and Oz or NZ… The world is getting crappy.
Stop going to Mexico, first of all. Everyone knows someone who has a story about going to Mexico and waking up in their hotel room without their wallet keys and phone. Just travel to Florida. You may meet Florida Man but at least you’re much less likely to end up on national news.
