We've never needed metal detectors in the NY subway system for decades because it's been pretty safe as far as shooting incidents goes but now maybe they need to start installing metal detectors. Who knows?

I’m fined with stricter laws for people that commit crimes with guns. I’m not fine with more restrictions on lawful and non criminal gun owners.
It’s not working. People who want to use guns still purchase them illegally. Ny state and specifically nyc are extremely tough on gun laws. But the rate of gun related crimes is higher then the average

Second, most American metropolitan rail system security are an absolute JOKE. People basically do whatever they want on trains, most cameras are useless because they don’t work. You can’t seriously expect a driver to handle the dozen trains attached. Wandering police officers or those standing around are unlikely to prevent anything. If rail systems can’t even stop or detect people who don’t pay, you really think they can stop criminals? Please..

No way this incident happened. Mayor Adams was telling everyone how safe the subway system is and we should all be using it to get to our destinations… or not. NYC simply isn't the same as when I was growing up in the 50s and 60s. You could leave your doors unlocked and your belongings outside overnight and they would be there in the morning. I don't remember this type of violence during those early years in southeast Queens. How much worse is NYC going to get? I don't see any solution to stopping crimes except maybe a high mortality strain Covid outbreak and a city-wide lockdown.
