This is so sad, it breaks my heart for these families that have lost their children. I personally have these social media platforms and hate them, I don’t get on them as much as I once did. There are SO MANY FAKE ACCOUNTS and it’s not right. Maybe a social security number that ties you to your account, TIN for businesses-there has to be some kind of vetting process to keep these predators and malicious scumbags from being someone else behind the screen. These parents/families have lost so much and will never get their loved ones back.
For me, I’m so disgusted with these platforms for another reason – elderly parents that become victims of these romance scams and get hooked in with catfishing. I have a personal experience with a celebrity scam and my 82 yo mother. I won’t go into all the details, but it has caused a lot of issues within our family and quite frankly destroying our relationships and there is NO HELP FOR ELDERS!!!!!! She has given thousand and thousands and thousands of dollars to these scumbags…..(I could go on with the thousands, but u get the point). WHO PROTECTS THIS AGING POPULATION and where do families turn? We have tried many avenues, local sheriff, bank, credit card companies, credit bureaus,TBI & FBI, but these people have her so brainwashed she continues to send money to them. I read stories like this every single day, people who have lost everything that would have taken care of them well Thru retirement but with these scammers, they have lost it all!
WHEN IS IT GOING TO STOP??? How many more families have to lose their loved ones? How many more people have to see their families give away their futures and suffer due to the LACK OF PROTECTION for our families???????
I do KNOW my mothers Scammer came from Facebook. I have proof of it all. It came from a country singers Fan Page.
SOMETHING HAS TO BE DONE TO GET THESE CREEPS//SCAMMERS OFF THESE PLATFORMS and keep our families SAFE.
The losses are definitely different, but one thing in common, social media platforms have DESTROYED FAMILIES!!!
The US 🇺🇸 should ban both Chinese apps, TikTok and WeChat.
– Not only they pose national security risks, but they are also harmful to young people.
This is why I myself my children do not have social media apps accounts. I have never had any with exception to YouTube. Which itself is falling apart because of lack of caring.
