Dumb move actually, since white lives matter was labeled as hate speech taking ownership of the phrase legally makes you a hate group. Which will end up contested in court because hate speech can't be trademarked and if white lives matter can be trademarked it therefore cannot be considered hate speech.
Trademarking the rights to ANY political or societal slogan is an extremely dangerous move.

Even after your trademark application has been approved, people can challenge and steal your intellectual property, using legal means. The reasons this is possible is that approved trademarks do not come with absolute ownership.
Sure, seems like a cool move. But, anyone who fully understands the nature of the USTPO (Trademarks and Patents) laws knows that Kanye can still LEGALLY sell the WHITE LIVES MATTER t-shirts if he cooses to do so. Kanye, in fact, has what's known as an unregistered trademark on the shirts, if he is the first person to actually produce the shirt. Imagine if that were NOT the case; anyone could retroactively trademark another person's unregistered product that they thought would make money and have sole rights to produce and sell the product. The USPTO "unregistered" status is designed to protect against such cases. The media continues to prey on the uninformed!
