Whether or not monkeypox becomes a "pandemic," it makes sense to offer a monkeypox vaccine, if one exists, or the smallpox vaccine NOW, to people that want it BEFORE they become infected. The monkeypox infection appears to be longer lasting and more unpleasant than chickenpox. Nowadays children in the U.S. are routinely given the chickenpox vaccine, so why not take preventive action against monkeypox? ?
