I believe that this is Mariano's (Kroger) and Jewel (Albertson's) in the Chicago area. Jewel is way older than Mariano's, but IMO Mariano's has an eating area and fantastic prepared meals and ambiance. Jewel couldn't maintain a buffet with sandwiches, burgers, pizza, fried chicken, salads and a bunch more like Mariano's. IMO, only Whole Foods was just a little better in that area, but OFC, Whole Foods will drain your wallet. They would probably do better separately than to combine them. I like Meijer and Costco, but I buy burgers for the grill at Mariano's and go to Jewel when I just want to drive a couple blocks away for a Starbuck's Mocha cookie crumble…
That's my story,
These big corporate mergers need to be stopped we are losing our free market
Both of those companies are too expensive, imagine how it will go now. So glad we have HEB as an option, better service, better products, and lower prices.
clearly investors dont see the merger coming to fruition, otherwise ACI would be on the uptick from the news of this possible acquisition.
Bottom line, they are both gouging us already, they are going to gouge us more now.
Kroger works Skelton staffs in their stores.
I work for a "high end" grocery chain {not whole foods) prices there are through the roof, (a box of cheerios costs $8 there) yet sales numbers there keep going up
Kroger brands are very cheap quality. Albertson will begin to carry Food for Less quality goods.
Kroger is already even with Albertsons in price. Fred Meyers has already raised prices by 50% on some items and other items they raise the price almost daily.
If it makes Groceries Cheaper, it is Advantageous for Society. If Mass can Diversify Cost across Pricing, it is beneficial for Customers.
Wal-Mart was 1st to the SuperStores and they made Pricing more beneficial for Consumers, however it did Price out of the Market,
all the Independent Vendors/Retailers.
Roger Mortimer Continues? Though it was an 'Affair'…. ? Welcome to the House of York? Wait? That is Albertonsons? NYC is not the Capital of New York?
They own vons too the first day prices went up and deals were confusing
I hate Kroger. The Albertson's chain is much better. I'm worried it will close down one of our stores and double prices at Kroger.
Kroger closed all it stores in North Carolina. Said it was too competitive. They do not open stores in minority areas
It's kind of convenient they lie at everybody on this network too Kroger's has never sold an item at an on sale price their prices for sales is everybody else's regular price trying to pass items off that are on sale that are not is ridiculous and they should be fine for it but of course they won't because they're one of many billion dollar corporations because both of these parties are bought and paid for by the money these companies put into them bought and paid for politicians need to get the f*** out of government the dumb Americans need to quit voting for people like that
Fred Meyer was better before Kroger bought them now the clothes they carry are poor quality and the Dip name is dumb
Workers should be concerned Kroger will be closing stores in Washington and California.
Who should be nervous about this is the employees. And if you think they are going to cut prices, think again!
This merger should be blocked we need more competition not less
How many locations will close as a result?
Kroger prices will never be the same. All this means is higher groceries.
I shop at Stater Brothers
Two swindling monopolies corporations joining together
Same old slavery wages and skyrocketing profits.
Krogers is overrated and rather expensive.
It may be time to boycott Krogers now; the store is laced with trust the science Gates products. Who can trust Gates!?
Merge all you want, Amazon will prevail!
It’s all about consolidation just like cargill
I am confused I thought Albertson's merged with Safeway.
Flickinger's rational is biased. Consumers prefer choice and innovation. The Kroger-
Albertson combination would give the company massive purchasing power (monopsony power if you are an antitrust lawyer) that will grant the supermarket greater profits, but will do little for consumers. Grocery prices are already low and competitive. This merger is nothing less than a money-grab. The several agencies of the federal government ought to bar this merger for the same of maintaining competition in the industry. The prior mergers Flickinger mentioned should have been barred as well. Concentrated economic power inevitably leads to concentrated political power –the power to buy political favors. When giants merge, it is always bad for consumers.Dang, here in Arizona, Albertsons also owns another Grocery Store called Safeway. That would leave us with just a few smaller grocery stores & Two Membership Stores. Not good for Arizona.
Now they can Raise the Price of Food. Let’s go Brandon.
They are merging to increase their purchase power to lower prices. Walmart is their main competition
As a monopoly, why cut prices?
Both "operators" are terrible managers of several banners across NA… losing share & distribution since mid-90's… ironically to European & small independents like Rouse's… most investors don't have a clue… category captains do… been there done that…
Thank you
The Yiddish.

Isn’t Kroger a woke company. 🤔
I'm not nervous about the merger and frankly I hope it is approved and mainly cos I understand the grocery business, and trust me, as an industry they have some of the slimmest profit margins, so I get the economics of it and secondly, where I'm from, we do not have any Krogers grocery stores and we used to have Albertsons for many years, but recently they pulled out of Oklahoma and all became Homeland stores… I know Kroger exists in Dallas Kansas City and even tiny West Virginia so I'm hoping this merger will ultimately lead to more stores through expansion into virgin markets and therefore will ncrease competition!
Every visit to kroger buying same items prices go up here in lower Michigan
Who should be nervous? All of the consumers and any employees at the corporate offices of Albertsons where overlap is going to occur. Employees at the dissolving corporation are always the ones to be let go first.
I work for Kroger. It's not a bad company. Bad experiences around bad people doesn't mean it's a bad company. I used to shop at Walmart. There are no checklanes open half the time, the line for the self checkouts is super long and the quality isn't as good as kroger.
I say go for it.
Flickinger needs to invest in a tooth brush! Nuff said.
HORRIBLE!!!! STOP IT!!!
Jewel foods is expensive so will the prices go down?
