The National Institute of Health found that more than half of high school seniors in the U.S. drank alcohol in the last year, and another report stated that 90% of teens consume alcohol by binge drinking, using it as a coping mechanism to battle loneliness and depression. NBC’s Erika Edwards speaks to a teen who turned to alcohol and marijuana to cope with anxiety and depression, and how she turned to her mother for help.ย

Viktor Frankl was right about the feeling of emptiness many people feel today. ๐
Ts funny
That's got to be the stupidest thing I've heard. Drinking to cope with loneliness and depression is the opposite people should do.
Because all of you do. america isnt the best place by far. there is more happiness in 3rd world countrys than this one. in the home, there is untrust, sadness, and doubt. Its a evil place, with horrible people, and normal people are stuck with it. Prices of everything is 3x its worth, since ever. Stealing homes, to rent much more than their worth. Its environment is hate locked. And they dont care, about how it really is. Even the picture behind you tells exactly how it is.
im 19 and just got out of Newport academy, lol trust me it dosent work. its was a miserable place they have rehabs all over the country for teens
When boys and men binge drink it's toxic masculinity. When girls and women drink, it's because they are victims of loneliness and it's men's fault. Got it
Allah help these poor children
Anxiety happens when you think you have to figure out everything all at once . Breathe . You're strong . You got this . Take it day by day .

Teens drinking alcohol…. this is news?!

Here๐DMT,SHROOM๐๐,LSD,KETAMINE,MMDA,GUMMIES,CHOCOLATE BARS ALL AVAILABLE
Teens may be drinking a bit more than last year, but it sounds like just conjecture that depression or social problems is a main cause.
While I sympathize with the young girl, this isn't new. I grew up in the 80s-90s and saw teens binge and/or do drugs all the time. Now as a parent, I can't pretend not to see that it really starts with us and family dynamics that can prevent these things before they happen. Just as an example, know a family around 12 years ago their 11 year old son was being bullied at school(by a girl, even biting him) and he was the one in trouble for standing up for himself and his parents reinforced the school's punishment. Made him feel powerless. I didn't know this and I told the boy to defend himself if the teachers wouldn't stop the bullying. Sitting right beside him, his mother clutched her pearls at me for suggesting such a thing(I homeschool btw). This created anxiety for him and all into his high school years. Not the bullying(he's a big boy), but the idea that he has no control over the way others get to treat him because he's taller and bigger and black in pws. No boundaries. He coped with weed and some drinking. Now years later his parents shake their head at his directionless life and weed habit, etc. But he still remembers the day many years ago when his mother was telling me about his school trouble and he sat there looking down while she explained to me "we don't let him retaliate like that at school"…those things really add up to not really knowing yourself and having a standard of value and worth for yourself.
This is not new teens have been with alcholo…around them in every decade.๐
i suffer from mental thoughts every single day but i keep it under control by drinking lots of ice coffee, play video games, music therapy, and play chess
Okayโฆ..letโs not pretend that this hasnโt been happening for centuries, I feel like every generation does this. Not just in 2023. This is a learned behavior, anyone can quit.
Uh, the reason why teens turn to them is because they help you deal with loneliness and depression.
It's cultural. Its Peer pressure and self expectation to be able to go with the flow. Pushing kids out early at 17y. No sustainance in faith in God. Young kids can be on their own to swim or sink. It's different with culture that has no such expectations. No matter how others are, be yourself without shame so long as you are not a liability to society. You don't have to change just to belong. You are never alone if you have God leading your life. Turn to God as no human being is expected to be completely reliable. God will provide the right company in His good time as you need it.
Thatโs what they saw their parents do.
๐ yes, is okay to make mistakes, and know that substance abuse will only make you feel worst. Ask for professional help โฅ๏ธ
How are they getting alcohol and marijuana as teenagers? Who is buying it? Oh, wow.
Why wouldn't they? Dealing with a lot of rude people.
And they live in a society where everybody is expected to do everything themselves. Wanting help is seen as "weakness" or "communism."
Because they are weak AF and can't talk themselves into putting down their phones and getting off social media.
Welcome to adulthood! It's coming early to the generation that grew up during a pandemic.
Wow why alcohol?! lol you will die young.
Because parents always needs to talk to their children no matter what… Reach out is the key openness to the family. Don't burden your problems on your own breath it out. Don't use alcohol specially those drugs.
That Stat has to be 90% of teens who drink, binge drink.
You are trying to report this like it's something new. Not. Centuries old problem.
Drugs are bad mkay
Something teens have been doing for years, why is it a question now.
Thank you for sharing your story. Great job. God bless you!
What a great girl . Good job sharing your story. You have courage. Stay healthy, you can do it.
You'd think wed be advancing, progressing in life as humans, but we are not. There's so much lie and manipulation that reality has become things we dream of looking at screens all day being someone we are not, but we are convinced we are. Kids are exposed to emotions and knowledge they are not developed enough to cope with.
Because it's the only thing left they can do in secret . Not like teens can go up to the dispensary or smoke cigarettes
Write in a journal. Everything.
Alcohol is a depressant.
I would recommend tequila or bourbon or lemon hai just to name a few drinks to party with your friends. Cheers!
I would've turned to anime and manga to cope with depression
All part of Biden is "building back better" plan.
Binge drinking is portrayed in the media as something the cool kids do. Never mind the date rapes, std's, pregnancies and horrendous traffic accidents that go along with it. America has lost it's moral compass when it comes to teaching kids "moderation".
Just hook up with me.
