Authorities are trying to find out why there was a major AT&T cell phone outage that left tens of thousands of people unable to make calls on their devices or send text messages. NBC’s Liz Kreutz reports.

I had AT&T when it was the only exclusive carrier to have the iPhone back in 2008 . Calls would drop consistently when I lived in downtown Philadelphia in 2008 . I’m glad I left that carrier a long time ago 😊

And, no, this doesn't look like an outside intrusion on the network, just good ol' American inept network engineering.
How many others had there iphone shut down and lock them out. Mine did the morning of the outage. I was already in the phone and it just shut off on its own. I didn't exceed keypad typing because I never could do it once it shut itself down. Once signal was restored I have it but still locked out. My wake up alarm is going off and I can't shut it off. I'm borrowing a phone to say all of this.
Google voice and email are good alternatives…

This is why they need to bring back the copper landline mandate. Copper land lines are extremely reliable and don’t go out like the cell phones to. Ironically AT&T is the most aggressive at decommissioning there copper landline network. Digital home phone services rely on the Internet, so those Are not reliable either. There needs to be a bill or law past that mandates that telephone companies provide telephone service over analog copper land lines.
Lesson that we rely on tech too much😂

We need to bring back wall phones, land lines from 90's, they were simply to use and no towers needed, old will soon become new again if this keeps happening with this modern day technology.

Other company that part with AT&T like cricket wireless, FirstNet, etc, also were down as well. I noticed some other companies were down as well, but not as bad as AT&T.
