His company was a main reason why we build our chips in China. And now he wants tax payer money for a bailout to move infrastructure to Mexico and North America. These guys never cease to amaze me.

Vietnam is a great place to expand. The Vietnamese people are highly educated and hard-working. Many Vietnamese can speak basic English, and they are far more positive towards the western world.
As an Intel retiree; this guy was all over the board. First he says the dominoes were set in motion 3 decades back for the US to lose its advantage; then turns around a few minutes later talking of the need for the US to get that dominance back, and then reversed again by talking about a global need to get the chip industry back on track. Perhaps Maria should have asked "Is part of the downfall in US chip advantage due to companies like Intel moving Fabs overseas; including Intel building Fab 68 in China? She could have followed up with the question "Why on earth would you allow Chinese engineers (Intel employees); which are undoubtedly reporting back to the Chinese government; to roam the FAB floor of FAB 22 and 32 (and I'm sure since its completion, they are in Fab 42 now); do you really believe what they learn is just being used to improve FAB 68 and not shared with their government? Intel's answer is that FAB 68 produces older tech in China; but the fact remains, those engineers were working in what was then (pre 2017 when I retired), Intels newest FABs in Chandler AZ. Reading the comments who are applauding the CEO's comments, obviously have no clue as to what has been going on (at least up thru 2017). I do applaud the construction of Fab 52 and 62 in Chandler (on the same site as 12, 32 and 42). Intel dropped the ball back in 2016 when it trimmed the workforce by trimming 11% of the workforce thru buyouts and extra incentives to retirement eligible (which I gladly accepted); while at the same time gaming the system by using H1B's to bring in non-US citizens; possibly they have trimmed back the H1B numbers.
Manufactured components for decades… directly to Intel. Their motto (enforced)… "Build it per specification, even if you know its wrong". I actually get that and they paid when their specs were wrong. However, it took over 10 years to get the smallest change… that had massive benefits through. To say they adapt slowly in an understatement.
What I know: Intel is the last place on earth to describe any business model that learns to adapt quickly. I can describe, accurately, that Intel decided a long time ago. You can manage your business, or you can manage politicians. They chose the latter.
Maria is repeatedly bringing on the last people we should seek for advice. Getting very worried.
