A special technique for our health & wellness | Dr. Howard Chen | TEDxReno

This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. lthough multiple markers of health and wellness have been directly linked to higher amounts of physical activity, and multiple chronic disease and illness states have been directly linked to low amounts of physical activity, the global population still has difficulty increasing it’s level of physical activity, especially in light of increasing industrialization and technology. Howard Chen will speak about the use of physical play as an avenue to improving levels of physical activity, and thus, health.

Dr. Howard Chen, MD, FAAMA is Medical Director of Health and Wellness at Renown Health. He is trained as a Family Physician, and currently works in the fields of Medical Acupuncture, Hyperbaric Medicine, and Wound Care. He is a member of American MENSA, and writes a monthly column on health and wellness for his local MENSA chapter. He lectures regionally on a variety of health topics, has taught at the UNR School of Medicine, and has been featured on the Web, TV, Radio, and newspaper segments on health.

Most grown folk that pretend they are this and that are so far gone when it comes to healing and restoring self. would have never believed that I would have had to experience what I am experiencing now and in the past few years when it comes to my personal health. I know for sure though, that if you were active and or a person that trained and disciplined their body, it's very easy for the body to revert back to its state of being, but it requires your initiative and constant motion. You are bound to heal yourself from doing all that you once did with baby steps. Anything that is familiar, no different than reuniting with someone that is familiar as well as good company brings good tidings, health

  3. I didn't expect to hear "Play!" But, it's so true – and at about 4:50 minute, Dr. Chen started the game where the people had to keep a ball off the ground. I was instantly brought back to childhood where we kids would blow up balloons and chant, "Keep that Balloon OFF the ground…gotta keep that Balloon OFF the ground!" We'd giggle and try our best to "push" that silly balloon as far away from one another as possible. So silly, and yet such a great memory. We never thought of "playtime" as exercise or wellness or anything like that. We just had FUN! 🙂 I think that's why little kids are so good for us to be around.

  4. PLAY !!  Great idea for us older kids !
