Some asylum seekers are choosing to sleep on the streets after New York City officials attempted to move them from a Manhattan hotel to a temporary shelter at a cruise terminal in Brooklyn. NBC’s Valerie Castro spoke to some of the men who are protesting the move as they claim the shelter conditions are unliveable.

They should've seen where I grew up in Brooklyn. It was small and filthy and crime ridden but my parents worked multiple jobs and things kept getting better. Millions of people from all over the world came to New York and made it work.

Homeless People have always felt safer being outside in New York City rather than the city shelters because of the way they are run. .. crime-ridden hellholes. Before giuliani became mayor back in the day, they used to let them hang out in grand central station so they wouldn't freeze to death. You'd see them sitting on the hard floor with their backs against the walls not bothering anybody just looking totally abandoned and like the world didn't care. . Because it didn't. These were human beings. Then giuliani came in as mayor and he forced them all out, trying to make them go to the shelters or get arrested. Shelters were so bad many of them chose to just go outside and die out there in the brutal winters. Great guy, Rudy.
