  19. ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION COSTS – – – State and Local

The total fiscal burden of illegal immigration on state taxpayers has now reached a staggering $115.6 billion, which is 30 percent more than it was in 2017. The primary reasons for this, aside from a rapid increase in the illegal alien population, are that a number of states have opted to expand access to state welfare, education, and medical programs to illegal aliens. These expansions have led to taxpayers paying tens of billions in additional funding to cover these costs.

Concerningly, as will be seen in the following section, the taxes paid by illegal aliens to state and local governments fall far short of making up for the numerous additional state-funded benefits they are receiving. Moreover, with many states set to begin offering even more benefits to illegal aliens, as mentioned previously, these costs are only expected to increase even further.

    State and Local Spending

State Educational Expenditures — $73.3 Billion

State Medical Expenditures — $18.6 Billion

State Administration of Justice Expenditures — $21.8 Billion

State Welfare Expenditures — $2 Billion

State and Local Expenditures — $115.6 Billion

  20. ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION COSTS – – – Federal Spending

The approximately $66.4 billion in federal expenditures attributable to illegal aliens is staggering, and constitutes an increase of 45 percent since 2017. This amounts to roughly $3,187 per illegal alien, per year.

FAIR believes that every concerned American citizen should be asking our government why, in a time of increasing costs and shrinking resources, it is spending such large amounts of money on individuals who are not authorized to be in the United States. This is an especially important question in view of the fact that the taxes paid by illegal aliens offset very little of the enormous costs stemming from their presence in the country.

    Federal Education — $6.6 Billion

Total Federal Medical Expenditures — $23.1 Billion

Total Federal Justice Enforcement Expenditures — $25.1 Billion

Total Federal Welfare Programs — $11.6 Billion

Total Overall Federal Expenditures — $66.5 Billion

  21. The study is based on the Census Bureau’s American Community Survey (ACS) and Current Population Survey (CPS) data, which traditionally undercounts the illegal population by about 30 percent because many illegal aliens are reluctant to respond to the surveys.

The increase in the illegal alien population under President Biden is based on a sample that only tracks household addresses on file with the government. Even adjusting for undercount, it excludes the tens of thousands of unsheltered illegal migrants and a huge number of “gotaways” or other individuals who have been paroled into the U.S. and live under the radar. The full number is impossible to quantify but likely even higher.

These 16.8 million illegal aliens now represent nearly one-third of the foreign-born residents of the United States.

The additional $12.6 billion in costs annually is only a down payment. These costs are likely to grow as the migrants become more settled and increase their use of services like public education and health. Moreover, parolees are immediately eligible for a range of welfare benefits.

At the current pace of illegal immigration, more new illegal aliens will have settled in the U.S. in the first three years of the Biden administration than in the entire decade of the 2010s.

  22. At Least 16.8 Million Illegal Aliens are in the U.S., Costing Taxpayers As Much as $163 Billion Annually, Finds New Analysis by FAIR

(June 22, 2023, Washington, D.C.) An analysis by the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) of the most recent Census Bureau data reveals that at least 16.8 million illegal aliens now reside in the United States. This figure represents an increase of 1.3 million just since the beginning of 2022, and 2.3 million since President Biden took office in January 2021.

Along with the sharp increase in the illegal alien population comes sharp increases in costs to American taxpayers. The unprecedented rate of influx of new illegal aliens over the past year would add $12.6 billion annually to the costs of illegal immigration, bringing the cumulative net cost to at least $163 billion a year. At the current pace of illegal immigration, the annual net cost will exceed $200 billion by 2026.

  23. FAIR Border Snapshot for June 2022

Southwest border encounters set the single-month record for the month of June – bringing the current Fiscal Year 2022 total to just over 2 million.

CBP had 207,416 migrant encounters at the Southwest border in June 2022, including 140,196 single adults, 51,780 family units, and 15,271 unaccompanied minors.

    9 percent increase from June 2021 (189,034).

    527.6 percent increase from June 2020 (33,049).

2 in 3 migrants encountered by Border Patrol were single adults.

Since President Biden took office, there have been over 3.18 million migrant encounters at the southern border alone.

In addition, nearly 800,000 gotaways have escaped from Border Patrol.

CBP has encountered more people in just 9 months of FY 2022 than in the entirety of FY 2021.

June was the 16th straight month with more than 150,000 encounters.

The Biden administration continues its crusade to end the Title 42 public health authority, despite extending other COVID-related national emergencies.

In June, CBP expelled only 44 percent of illegal aliens using Title 42.

  24. (July 19, 2022, Washington, D.C.) — The Federation for American Immigration Reform issued the following statement, as well as a deeper dive into the growing border crisis, based on data quietly released late last week by the Biden administration:

“The Biden administration once again set records at the border for malfeasance,” said Dan Stein, president of the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR). “Encounters of illegal migrants at our borders last month were the greatest for any June on record. The 207,416 migrants apprehended by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) in June also mean that encounters for FY 2022 have already exceeded last year’s totals, with three months remaining in the fiscal year.

“Yet, in spite of the human toll, the impact on communities all across the country, threats to national security and public health, and the surge of lethal narcotics flowing into the country, the Biden administration steadfastly refuses to secure our borders. Contrary to the First Lady’s protestations, the ongoing disaster at our southern border is not a result of unanticipated circumstance, but rather a direct and predictable result of policies that President Biden and Secretary Mayorkas are deliberately inflicting on the American people,” Stein charged.

  25. No. This can’t be. Biden just said that it’s the best it’s ever been.

  26. As one that lives in poverty, i still go to work at an apartment complex every day thats full of people living off the taxpayers. Its infuriating and depressing at the same time. Trapped though, gotta work no matter what because i refuse to be part of the problem

  27. Congress (BOTH Parties) are too busy giving away our money to other countries.

  28. The increase in childhood poverty is proof Bidenomics is working.
