Had Powell implemented a series of regular, predictable quarter-point increases sooner (even if only starting a year or so ago), people would have taken them in stride. And had he given assurances that he was planning to take such a "slow and steady course" for the foreseeable future, it could have eliminated a great deal of uncertainty, which is one of the worst enemies of the Stock Market.
Now, with two 75 basis point hikes in less than two months, wouldn't be surprised if it has the effect of throwing a figurative bucket of ice-cold water on our Economy.
And as for inflation, throwing billions of dollars at people without them having to work for it? Anyone who stayed awake during Macro-Economics 101 could see that doing so would cause "Demand-Pull Inflation."

The problem with this press conference is, for one, the Federal Reserve CAUSED the issue of inflation. By printing money incessantly at a higher level than in the past, it increased the inflation we see today. Not being honest about one's actual role in the matter is one thing, but attempting to fix it while continuing to do the same thing that got us here, it is irresponsible.
