Parolee Austin suffered from the jailhouse mentality. It is very common for Hispanic and Black inmates to fight each other in NYC/NYS prison systems. Moreover, the is plenty of racial animosity in the high rent zone Heights. Parolee Austin thought that he could attack the frail 61yr. old with impunity. Why wasn't the knife wielding female arrested ?? This case has the nasty smell of incompetency written all over it. Glad to see the activist BLACK GUNS MATTER Maj Toure supporting the bodega employee instead of using the standard "he killed him because he was black" accusation. Kudos to Mr. Toure. DA Alvin Bragg better snap out of it. He won't be able to run for dog catcher if he doesn't act appropriately. His legal policies have caused a rash of police early retirements/resignations. Personally, I ve seen more than one bodega owner packing a gun for protection over the years. You can't give the cheap stick up artists a card blanche to abuse our local bodega owners.
