In 1980 the average American home had a telephone that sounded like (and looked like) the one at my grandma's house. Same for TV sets. Heavy federal regulation made it unattractive for innovators to invest in consumer products of that sort. Following Reagan's first term it was Katie Bar the Door. Within fifteen years the average American home had a PC, a futuristic phone and a big screen TV. The expansion of the economy was staggering. Clinton and Reagan each had the sense to push innovation and incentivize development. By 2010 smart phones, flat panel TVs and cheap global communication ruled. We only need to return to this sort of incentivization.
