What type of batting you have without smith you can't win in the first test your entire team score 8s equals to his individual score if smith is not there in first test your team will be allout below 150 in the first innings n coming to Lords test if there is no rain then you are out of the game again rain saved you like anything so we are waiting to see your batting line up i. 3rd test without smith all the best iron man

~ Perhaps Pattinson in for Hazlewood since Pattinson can do the same as Hazlewood (Less consistent though) but is a much better Batsman. 0 and 47 n/o 1st game.
~ Siddle out unfortunately although he has been very very good. But since Archer has come on the scene with 150Kmh we need someone who can also do that to get the intimidation factor back. I.e. Starc. Hazlewood can do a similar role hopefully.
Several Key Notes to winning or at least drawing this test to retain The Ashes:
1. Don’t give Rory Burns a chance. Need a short leg (maybe leg slip) for him since he’s vulnerable to the short ball. Also Starc being in will give a chance to test his defence more since he plays on his off stump. Starc’s angle will attack the stumps better on 4/5th stump line. Plus getting him out will lead to 3 right handlers which Cummins / Hazlewood / Pattinson bowls better to. Cummins averages 20 against RHB whilst 27 against LHB.
2. Keep Root and Stokes quiet since they’re the most technically sound batsmen on their team. Can’t drop catches, especially Stokes last test. Made 109 runs more than he should’ve if review/catch was taken. Root is obvious since his is the captain and has the best average in their team.
3. Use the DRS Better! Even if it hits Leg Stump for Lyon you keep the review! So Paine use them! Not on some dumb pitching outside leg delivery😤.
4. Take care of the lower order. Chris Woakes has made 37 37 32 against us. Shouldn’t give those runs up that easily for him. Ours needs to wag too.
5. Warner, Khawaja and Paine to a lesser degree needs to step up batting wise without Steve Smith. Hopefully Head/Labuschagne makes a half century or century. I think they’re most in form at present. Wade has made a century but the way he has gotten out the last two innings is a concern.
6. Keep Archer out and look to score on the other bowlers, although very tough to. Need to somehow counterattack Leach like how Lyon was dismantled last game 🤕.

Smith has been ruled out, why was he allowed back out to bat, looks like an error now, could have been very dangerous. The Australian management and team doctor have a lot of questions to answer.

Key to win Headingly test & Ashes for Aussies..
1.Defeat Umpires( Joel Wilson & Aleem Dar , Dharmasena etc)
2.Dont give Rory Burns (the boring batsman) a life.
3.Dont miss a single catch especially in slip cordon.(Put a second slip when Lyon is bowling.
and Short Leg when Cummins is bowling)
4.Play Labuchagne at 3 and Mitch Starc instead of Khawaja (low in confidence) and Siddle.
5.Win the Toss and Bat first
6.Teach Tim Paine how to use DRS perfectly.
