As I understand it there was a second plane in process but never completed long ago. Also, for how many MONTHS was the U.S. and other intelligence agencies warning Ukraine and the entire world of the impending invasion with tens of thousands of Russian troops in position ready to strike??? Why was the plane not transported ANYWHERE on earth then??? Why is the USA funding another plane at all and why is it happening BEFORE THE WAR IS COMPLETED, cities are rebuilt and humming along, the Ukrainian economy is robust and strong and the continuing death and destruction now ongoing has long passed???? How bizarre all of this is to me. RIP AN225, king of the skies.

Volga-Knepr smashed all the gauges out of US Navy HSC-25 helicopters they flew out of Guam on a AN-125 to Afghanistan under a UN contract. Big stink after the ukraines did that to American helicopters during the Afghanistan war.
I would not be surprised if Ukrainian Azov did it and blamed it on Russia like they have been doing after they kill their own people and blow up their own structures…

Ukraine is in the middle of a war. Ukraine's leaders are literally begging for aid (both weapons and funding) from other countries almost each and every day. I was always impressed by this plane too, but it hardly seems to the time for Ukraine to be spending other peoples' money on a feel-good propaganda project. Every penny that the west sends them should be used on humanitarian aid not on rebuilding old airplanes, no matter how impressive those planes might be. I'd like to see this plane fly again too, but that can wait until after the war. There are plenty of more important and productive ways for Ukraine to be spending OUR MONEY. And I'm not sure why people keep referring to this plane as a Ukrainian aircraft. As others have pointed out it's actually a Soviet designed aircraft that was built in the Soviet Union, just like the SU-25's, Su-27's, Mig-29's, etc… that both sides are flying in this war. Why a country that is trying to break away from its Soviet past is obsessed with celebrating its Soviet era accomplishments is a mystery.
